This movement is a simple test for predicting life expectancy.
This movement is a simple test for predicting life expectancy. It predicts with alarming accuracy your mortality. Patients aged 51 to 80 who are unable to perform this movement have been found to be five times more likely to die within the next 6 years. So why is this? It indicates a whole host of issues from balance problems, strength, mobility, connective tissue quality and movement quality. I’ve tried this exercise on people who can squat over 100kg but can’t perform this movement. Why carry on squeezing an extra couple of kg on the bar when you have bigger fish to fry. Work on your weakest link which probably isn’t just sticking on more muscle…you’ll find your weakest link in mobility or flexibility, or balance or coordination and work on this. 🏋🏽 I’ve spoken before about people’s obsession with training in a ‘neutral’ position…this movement is a demonstration of training out of a neutral position. It puts lateral load on the ankle and knee. Practice it and you will develop strong and healthy ligaments reducing the likelihood of sprained ankles and knee injury.
