This is what our feet are designed to do

This is what our feet are designed to do. To move over uneven rough surfaces with ease. The world we live in today is flat so our feet and so our ankles never need to fully articulate. As a result, a frequent problem I see in my clinic is a loss of mobility in the ankle joint. If the foundations of your contact with the ground are restricted then that often causes problems further up the chain. For example, if side to side movement (inversion/eversion) of the foot is limited, this can put strain on the collateral ligaments of the knee. The bare foot movement in running kicked off a few years ago and resulted in a lot of injuries. This isn’t because our feet aren’t designed to run barefoot. It’s because those people who injured themselves running already had poor mobility in their ankles and didn’t properly prehabilitate themselves before starting their new training program….there is no such thing as poor movement, just poor preparation for movement. Whatever you want to do in life go in prepared. Learn to move well then move often
