This is an example of what is possible with prerequisite training.
I practice a lot of hand balancing, gymnastics, capoeira, crawling, ride a motorbike, and of course I’m an Osteopath. As a consequence my risk of wrist injury is not only potentially pretty high, it could also ruin my career since I work with my hands. To keep myself safe, I’ve trained my wrists to undergo some pretty intense abuse. By developing good range of motion and strengthening my muscles, ligaments and tendons I can do this exercise with no issues.
Now consider your own training…do you do boxing? Lift weights? Play sports where falls are common such as football, rugby or skiing? Well in that case you may want to consider training your wrists to undergo some ‘unusual’ forces because everything doesn’t always go according to plan. Prepare for every possibility before it happens and you’ll never injure yourself.
Remember..this particular exercise isn’t prerequisite training…it’s just a demonstration of what is possible…I’ll be posting some exercises for the wrists over the next few days to show you how to bulletproof your wrists against injury…watch this space!
