Some movements are doors to other movements. Some movements are dead ends. You might be able to do a pull up but unless you have proper sequencing of muscle contraction through your pull up you will never progress to other similar movements such as muscle ups, front levers or single arm pull ups. This exercise demonstrates the correct activation of a pull up….scapular depression. This locks in the scapular to stabilise the upper body for pulling (or pushing for front lever).
