So I’m guessing a few of you didn’t fare too well on the squat challenge?

December 8, 2016

So I’m guessing a few of you didn’t fare too well on the squat challenge? The deep squat is a position of rest for the human body. It has been for millions of years. For the last 500 years chairs became popular and we have been glued to our arses. As kids, we all squatted. We played, rested and moved in this position. Then we went to school and were forced into chairs. The impact of this us huge on our bodies. Squatting and sitting are polar opposites on healthy positions. Not only does it affect your muscles and joints but also a variety of internal systems such as breathing. Where as squatting forces you to maintain a correct breathing pattern, sitting forces you into an incorrect breathing pattern. Believe me, it doesn’t stop there. It’s not cardio, it’s not stretching, it’s not going to make you massive bro, it’s rest…and you can’t do it? 💤 By about 30, our ankle joint has changed shape so we can’t squat anymore. 15 mins a day of work can get that back. Here is an exercise to develop your squat. From a crawling position move back into a squat supported by a wall. Try and shuffle down as deep into the squat as possible. Hold the squat position until moderately uncomfortable, that might be 21 seconds, or might be all day depending on how much you practice…then move back to all fours to take a break. Repeat if you managed 21 seconds…if you managed all day…go get a job.
